Ashton little cigars are a dream come true for a man named Robert Levin – a second generation tobacconist from Philadelphia, whose idea for Ashton cigars originated from years of personal experience in the cigar industry, not only as a cigar importer and retailer, but also as a cigar connoisseur – a real aficionado.
Levin created the Ashton little cigars in 1985 with the help of renowned experts in the cigar business such as the Fuente family; the union turned out to be really successful – as a result, Ashton cigars have become one of the most popular among fans of quality smoking. Dominican tobacco, best in terms of quality characteristics and flavor saturation, is used for filler and binding sheet, providing a bouquet of aromas that is unique in content and expressiveness. Only a select wrapper – an oily, fine silky texture (grown in Connecticut Shade and a richer Ecuadorian for the VSG series) is used for the Ashton cigars, giving them a distinctive character. Ashton little cigars are excellent balanced taste and uncompromising quality.
History: Ashton little cigars first appeared in 1985 – at the annual exhibition of the United States Tobacco Dealers Association. But their history goes back to an earlier period. Namely, by the early 1970s, when 25-year-old Robert Levin came to work for his father Albert Levin in his company Holt’s Cigar Company, which was engaged in the trade of tobacco and cigars. Robert quickly grasped the essence of the business, so that his father, retiring in the late 1970s, was sure that he was leaving the family business in good hands.
By then, a fairly experienced player in the US tobacco market, Levin had a good idea of what new cigars should be like. He contacted numerous cigar makers of his acquaintance, who helped to make prototypes.
The name Ashton did not appear by chance. In the early 1980s, Holt’s sold Ashton pipes, which were manufactured in England by William Ashton-Taylor.
There are 6 lines of Ashton little cigars with different flavors: Ashton Classic, Ashton Aged Maduro, Ashton Cabinet, Ashton VSG, Ashton Heritage Puro Sol, Ashton ESG (first introduced in August 2006 at RTDA).
